LIVES

“Litter-free rivers and streams” : cross-border campaigns for a Meuse without muck.

Project LIVES is all about reducing plastic waste in the Meuse and its tributaries. The objective of the project is to achieve a 50% reduction in plastic waste by the end of the project. While there are already several initiatives at local level, the LIVES project takes a more coherent, cross-border approach. Ten project partners from the Euregio Meuse-Rhine have joined together to engage in a variety of activities. They include a comprehensive analysis of the current situation in the rivers, measures to combat the generation of waste, and the installation of five different kinds of plastic collection systems, as well as awareness campaigns. Institutional provisions are in place to make sure the measures remain sustainable once the project comes to an end. So the LIVES project can already build on a trusting collaboration between all actors in the water sector, which has been tried and tested in the FLOODWISE and AQUADRA projects.
